THE banks of the Gogo Burn were packed with onlookers as the Largs Rubber Duck Race made its return on Saturday.

More than a thousand rubber ducks were launched into the burn from the bridge next to the Morrison's roundabout, with each duck numbered and sponsored, as they made their way down the challenging route of rocks, stones and crevices, to the finishing line at the Makdougall Brisbane Bridge at Mackerston.

The event is an annual fundraiser for the Largs Lifeboat.

A total of 1600 little yellow ducks were released into Gogo Burn on Saturday floating their way to the finish line past the huge crowds of supporters who turned out for this highly anticipated event.

Volunteer crew were positioned along the bankside to assist the ducks on their journey and gather up any of the stragglers.

Duck number 1131, owned by Lee Mitchell, was the first lucky duck to cross the line. All of the owners of the other prize winning ducks have now also been contacted by the fundraising team.

Linn Munton, Fundraising Chair at Largs RNLI, said: ‘My thanks go to everyone involved in arranging this quacktasic event.

‘As a charity the RNLI rely on the donations and support we get from the public to allow us to continue to save lives at sea.

‘Everyone at Largs RNLI is very appreciative of the support we receive from our local community and would like to thank all of those who bought a duck for this event’.

The event is always a popular family fun day out and has raised funds for many good causes over the 25 years or so that it's been a fixture on the Largs summer calendar.
