One of the major entrances into Upper Skelmorlie has been closed for essential roadworks.
The work affects the entire length of Long Hill, from its junction with Eglinton Gardens and Station Road to the junction with Shore Road.
The works started at 9am on Monday, July 15,
The road is closed due to street lighting and carriageway resurfacing works, and diversions are signposted.
However, there is confusion as to how long the works will last, with road signs in the area indicating that the disruption will continue for five days - while the North Ayrshire Council roads website says the work is ongoing until August 19.
Frustrated motorists contacted the News about the delays caused involving drivers having to go through two sets of roadworks including having to drive through a badly potholed area that needs fixed, and to turn at a turning point which requires extreme caution.
Independent councillor Ian Murdoch suggested that road users in Skelmorlie should come down Eglinton Terrace and come out at The Shores housing development.
He added that the roads authorities were aware of his own concerns in relation to potholed areas, with works set to take place at a later date.
North Ayrshire Council has been contacted for clarity on the length of the closure.
A spokesperson said: "The road will be closed from 15 July until the 19 August to enable all works to be completed."
