COUNCIL bosses have agreed to reschedule planned roadworks in Skelmorlie after residents pointed out that they would cause conflict with a closure already in place in the village.
Longhill has been closed between the A78 and the junction with Eglinton Gardens and Station Road for street lighting and carriageway resurfacing.
That closure took effect on Monday, July 15 and is due to last until Friday, August 19 - with the North Ayrshire Council (NAC) confirming the closure dates after a sign went up in the village suggesting the Longhill closure would only last for five days.
But residents were left confused after NAC announced separate plans to shut a stretch of Eglinton Terrace for five days from July 29.
They pointed out that the Eglinton Terrace closure affected part of the Longhill diversionary route.
Posting on a local social media group, one resident pointed out that the two closures combined would leave "no obvious route out of Upper Skelmorlie", while another asked: "Can we rig up a zip line to get out of the village?"
North Coast councillor Todd Ferguson said he had pointed out the conflict to NAC officials and they had agreed to postpone the Eglinton Terrace closure until after the Longhill works are complete.
A council spokesperson said: "Works are being re-scheduled, with the contractor to commence after the works at Longhill are complete."
