MOTORHOME drivers have been warned not to use a car park close to the Largs seafront after residents complained.
People living in Millennium Court complained that three motorhomes had been parked in an area not designated for them within the Vikingar! car park on the evening of Monday, July 15.
KA Leisure, which runs Vikingar!, confirmed motorhomes were not allowed in the visitor attraction’s car park.
There are no facilities in the Vikingar! car park for dealing with waste from motorhomes.
Millennium Court resident David Allardice said: “I was very surprised to see three motorhomes parked at the Vikingar! car park overnight as it was something I hadn’t seen before, and as far as I am aware, I don’t think they should be there.
“My concern is that it becomes a precedent and could lead to being like the car park at the marina.
“Another question I have is how do they dispose of their waste?”
KA Leisure have confirmed that the motorhomes are ‘not permitted’ to be there.
A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that the camper vans have now vacated the car park.
“KA Leisure does not permit this type of usage; however, it is an open car park.
“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and collaborate with local authorities if necessary.”
Members of Largs Community Council (LCC) discussed the issue of campervans and motorhomes parking in the town at a recent meeting.
There are facilities for motorhomes at South Whittlieburn farm, on Brisbane Glen Road, although that is three miles from the town centre.
Concerns have previously been raised around the lack of dedicated motorhome parking facilities closer to the centre of town, as well as at motorhome drivers parking on the grass at Aubery Park at the north end of the prom and at the south end of the town.
North Coast councillor Ian Murdoch told LCC last year that he was keen to see basic facilities for motorhomes established somewhere in Largs, possibly around Bowen Craig.
Since then, dedicated facilities have been set up at Largs Yacht Haven.
A dedicated motorhome parking area was established in Millport in the summer of 2021, with 17 spaces to the rear of Garrison House.
