North Ayrshire families enjoyed a fantastic day at Eglinton Country Park during a recent outdoor learning summer session.

Taking place on Thursday, July 4, families braved the elements and got stuck in, starting the day with a woodland walk, followed by nature-inspired crafting and raft-making and racing.

Although the weather was very wet, the free session led by staff from North Ayrshire Community Learning and Development team offered a brilliant opportunity for young adventurers to enjoy time spent learning outdoors.

Learning about nature, experiencing the North Ayrshire STEM trail and also having a chance to unleash their creative sides, the session was well received.

The youngsters taking part said: "I loved getting muddy today, we got to make some amazing nature art and it was so much better than just staying inside."

It is one of many happening locally across various council venues this summer.

Councillor Alan Hill, Cabinet Member for Communities and Islands said: "It is fantastic to see so many children, families and young people engaging with nature.

“Thank you to our staff from Connected Communities who ran the event and to Eglinton Country Park for supporting the worthwhile session.

“This type of outdoor learning is a brilliant example of how the council is continuing its work around the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child – to respect children’s rights and champion them in their learning beyond the classroom, providing them with safe and inclusive spaces to express themselves freely outdoors.

“Well done to everyone for giving it their all!”
