It is a centenary celebration at the Cathedral of the Isles in Millport for their weekly summer concert on Sunday.

The event will mark 100 years since the birth of Scottish composer Buxton Orr (1924-97) including 'Cazaona' and 'Songs of a Childhood'.

Buxton Orr gave up a career in medicine to study with Benjamin Frankel during the early 1950s, and his first professional work featured in films including Boris Karloff horror movies.

He joined the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in 1965, founded its New Music Ensemble and conducted the London Jazz Composers' Orchestra touring England and Europe.

He received commissions from Glasgow University, the Saltire Society, the Park Lane Group, the BBC (1979 Bath Festival), Radio Scotland, the City of London Festival and Merseyside Arts.

His interest in music theatre led to his writing Unicorn, The Last Circus, and Ring in the New, the latter during his period as Composer-in-Residence and Associate Director of the Music Theatre Studio Ensemble at the Banff Centre for Fine Arts in Canada.

The Cathedral of the Isles have pulled together some top talent to go through the repertoire of some of Orr's best works.

Performing at the special celebration are the following: Sebastian Schneeberger, tenor; Katherine Laurie Jones, soprano, Calum Robertson, clarinet; Emma Lloyd, violin; Theo Michel, Viola; Annouka Nistor, cello; and the cathedral's very own Alastair Chisholm on piano.

The event is free and starts at 3pm, with a retiring collection at the completion of the concert.
