POLICE in Largs have closed off a section of the town's promenade as officers investigate a report of a serious sexual assault on a woman.
The taped-off area is close to the amusement rides facility, and opposite St Columba's Parish Church and Nardini's restaurant.
Police say the incident was reported to them at around 3.30am on Tuesday, July 23.
The News was alerted to the closure at 6.30am after joggers encountered the police tape.
A police car was also observed in attendance.
The area was still closed off at 8.30am.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.30am on Tuesday, 23 July, we received a report of the serious sexual assault of a 23-year-old woman at The Promenade, Largs.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
