An island garden party celebrating Captain, Greg Christie’s faithful guide dog and companion of over a decade, is taking place in Millport this weekend.
Captain was a beloved member of the community and the campaign goal is to raise £2,500 to support the next generation of service dogs, and to name a puppy in training in his memory.
You can enjoy crafts, home baking, locally grown produce, a silent auction and much more on July 28 at The Age Concern hut and grounds.
There will also be live music by Kerry Railton, as well as Millport Pipe Band and The Grumpy Old Pipers adding to the entertainment on the day.
Guide dogs will be present with their handlers to raise awareness, and to talk all things guide dog.
Organiser Amanda Tennant said: "Join us on July 28 from 1pm to 3pm at The Age Concern Hut and grounds for a charity garden party in honor of Captain, Greg Christie’s late companion.
"Our goal is to raise £2,500 for Guide Dogs Scotland helping to bring these life-changing animals to those in need. Let’s honour Captain’s legacy and support Guide Dogs Scotland together.
"We have lots of activities to keep both adults and children entertained, and you’ll also have the chance to meet the guide dogs and chat all things guide dog. Your participation will contribute to a fantastic cause.
"A guide dog can profoundly impact a visually impaired person’s life by providing independence, safety, and companionship."
A donations page has already been set up, which has raised £350 so far, and can be accessed here: http://www.justgiving.com/page/captainmillport
