Police have confirmed that an arrest has been made in relation to alleged sexual assault on Largs Promenade during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.30am on Tuesday July 23, we received a report of the serious sexual assault of a 23-year-old woman at The Promenade, Largs.
“A 63-year-old man has been arrested in connection and released pending further enquiries.”
Police closed off a section of the town's promenade as officers investigated the reports.
The taped-off area is close to the amusement rides facility, and opposite St Columba's Parish Church and Nardini's restaurant.
The News was alerted to the closure at 6.30am after joggers encountered the police tape and a police car still in attendance at the scene.
