Gardening enthusiasts are reminded that it will soon be time for the big annual Largs Horticultural Society flower show celebration.
The Largs event is understood to be the longest running of its kind, starting 183 years ago - and it is still going strong thanks to the efforts of keen gardeners in the community.
This year's show is being held on Saturday, August 24 from 10am – 4.30pm in Dunn Memorial Hall, St John’s Church, and the community have been busy growing and preparing their exhibits.
Flower, pot plant and vegetable growers, flower arrangers, crafters and bakers, will all be taking part and putting their skills on show.
There will also be children from schools and nurseries participating and community gardens and allotment sites will also be involved in the spectacle.
Alongside the main classes there are a range of sponsored classes, which include making a Viking Shield and a junior and senior bake-off involving making a decorated cake. There is also special awards like a National Vegetable Society medal for the best vegetable and a National Sweet Pea Rosette for the best sweet pea exhibit.
Anyone can enter and there is still time to get involved. Visit www.largshorticultural.org.uk for the full schedule, or the check out how to enter and see photographs of past exhibits.
The horticultural society's next meeting on Wednesday, August 7 at 7.30pm at St John’s church Hall or for more information contact the secretary on 01475689423.
Entries are brought to the hall on Friday, August 23 between 12noon and 6pm. Help is on hand to stage any entries. Flower arrangers/Decorative classes must be booked four days in advance.
