It is another busy day with long traffic queues in the district, affecting Skelmorlie, Wemyss Bay and Inverkip today, following disruption at Port Glasgow yesterday evening.
There have been reports of long tailbacks on the A78 between Skelmorlie and Wemyss Bay today affecting the Shore Road this lunchtime.
According to local social media forums, the traffic is 'horrendous' heading to Skelmorlie from Greenock, with lengthy tailbacks.
One motorist said at 1.15pm: "Traffic is all the way back to Inverkip. Spent half an hour to get to Wemyss Bay - ferry traffic causing build up."
It follows public transport disruption last night due to roadworks in Port Glasgow, with buses to Largs being an hour overdue.
Drivers were left facing traffic chaos on the main route between Greenock and Port Glasgow as unexpected Scottish Water roadworks caused heavy tailbacks.
Cones and temporary traffic lights were set up on the busy road as works got underway on the A8 at Port Glasgow Road near its junction with Pottery Street.
Information from the Scottish Road Works Commissioner indicated that the work related to a manhole cover.
