LARGS folk were left unhappy after the Haylie Brae recycling centre closed for a day this week ... just days after they discovered their brown bins had not been emptied.
One resident even asked if strike action at North Ayrshire Council had "started early".
Now the council have revealed the recycling centre had been closed due to staff shortages. And the good news is that the brown bins will finally be emptied tomorrow (Saturday).
Largs man David Hardy told the News: "On Wednesday, the Haylie Brae waste recycling centre was closed when I went up there about at about 1pm. One lady was trying to get through to the council but was just left on hold.
"My brown bin collection was not collected on Monday, it still hasn't been picked up as of today.
"I understand strike action is pending. Have they started early?"
A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said today: “Unfortunately, Largs Household Waste Recycling Centre had to close temporarily due to unforeseen staff shortages.
"This closure was for one day only and the site was operational the following day, Thursday, August 1. A message was posted on social media alerting customers to this closure.
“In relation to the missed brown bin collections, we were unable to provide a collection service on Monday, July 29, due to limited resources and a mechanical issue with vehicles.
"These bins are now scheduled to be collected on Saturday, August 3, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Waste and cleansing service workers at North Ayrshire Council have announced strike action from Wednesday, August 14 until Thursday, August 22.
It comes after a pay rise offer from the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (Cosla) was rejected by members of Unite, Unison and the GMB.
Negotiations - now involving Scottish Government representatives - are continuing, however, in the hope that a deal can be reached before the strike date.
