THE number of shoplifting incidents reported have increased, according to police.
Police Scotland presented a monthly update on crime figures to Largs Community Council and revealed that the number of assaults has dropped over the most recent reporting period from the previous month.
The figures pertain to mid-June to mid-July in which there were a total of three assaults, all of which were detected, including incidents in Frazer Street, Allanpark Street, and Main Street,
The number of bail breach incidents reported has also declined after this was raised as a concern by community councillor Jamie Black at last month's community council meeting.
The rise in thefts though was highlighted in the crime report with a total of six thefts, including three in Holehouse Road, as recently reported by the News, as well as incidents at Kelburn Estate on July 5, and Glenacre Drive on July 10.
Sergeant Donald Fisher said; "Compared to previous month, there have been less assaults, breach of court bails and less road traffic offences.
"Speeding checks continue to be carried out.
"Acquisitive crime, including shopliftings, is higher than previous months. At the time of report, many of those enquiries are still ongoing."
A total of 12 shoplifting incidents were reported to police during the reporting period.
Police said 38 out of the 249 incidents reported to Largs Police were categorised as crime.
Sergeant Fisher added: "At the time of report, many of those enquiries are still ongoing with some suspects identified but yet to be traced."
