Police required extra reinforcements in Millport in the early hours of Sunday morning to help with the arrest of a man.

Largs Lifeboat were called out at 1.20am to help transfer extra police to Cumbrae in order to support Millport officers in their duties.

Sergeant Donald Fisher of Largs Police said: "Late on Saturday evening into Sunday morning, police were carrying out enquiries which led to the arrest of a man.  

"As a result of that arrest and to provide further resources, additional officers were conveyed over by Largs lifeboat crew.   

"The man was later transferred the following day to a custody centre on the mainland to later appear at court.  

"I would like to thank the lifeboat crew and members of the public in Millport for their assistance in dealing with the circumstances of the male."

A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal in relation to the incident.

An RNLI spokesperson said: "The volunteer crew at Largs launched in the early hours of Sunday morning to assist Police Scotland, by transferring additional units onto the Isle of Cumbrae.

"After a short passage the two police officers were landed at Millport pier and with no further need, the lifeboat crew were stood down and allowed to return to station."
