THE Largs Horticultural Society says it's 'green for go' as it prepares to serve up a blooming marvellous day at the town's annual flower show later this month.
The show, celebrating the very best of the area's flowers, plants, flower arrangements, crafts, baking and more, is one of the longest-running events of its kind in Scotland and brings a feast of colour, scent and talent to the town every August.
The very first Largs Flower Show was held in 1841, and the event is still a big part of the localhorticultural calendar today.
This year's show is being held on Saturday, August 24 from 10am until 4.30pm in the Dunn Memorial Hall at St John’s Church in Bath Street.
With more than 400 entries it promises to be a sight to behold, with categories and competitions for all age groups.
Alongside the show will be a tearoom, with home baking, from 10am until 3.30pm, as well as a raffle and a plant sale.
Classes include fuchsias and begonias; beautiful cut flowers; vegetables, fruit and herbs; floral art; handicrafts; baking and preserves.
The junior section this year will feature miniature gardens, animals made from fruit and veg, flower arrangements, and handicrafts including Viking shields and a decorated cake, all showing off creativity and imagination guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.
Local schools, nurseries and early years groups have also been busy preparing pot plants, flowers, vegetables and gardens in unusual containers.
Community cardens and allotments in the area have vegetables and cut flowers to display, while talented local bakers will compete in 'Bake-Off decorated cake' competitions, one for adults and one for children.
With trophies, medals, rosettes, sponsored prizes and goody bags for children up for grabs it is sure to be a lot of fun.
And with plenty of local gardeners, crafters, bakers, floral artists and children set to be there, the show is the ideal place to pick up hints and tips for your own garden or kitchen.
Everyone has something they could bring along to the show bench and there is still time to enter.
See www.largshorticultural.org.uk for all the details and photos of past shows, or contact secretary Etta Strachan on 01475 689423.
Entries for all classes can be brought along to the show venue on Friday, August 23 between 12 noon and 6pm, when help will be on hand to get submissions looking at their best for the big day.
A spokesperson for the organisers said: "Good luck to all our exhibitors – may the sun shine on you."
