A POPULAR Millport bar is in the running to be named the best in Scotland.
The Newton Bar has been named as a finalist in the 'Pub of the Year' category of the Scottish Pub and Bar Awards for 2024.
The island's pub is one of four venues from across Scotland which has been given the nod, and will be included in the next stage of the process.
The pub was selected from hundreds of entries to reach this stage - with people putting their local forward due to their outstanding service and atmosphere.
Customers comment that the Glasgow Street bar is a "home from home" - and noted the fantastic work they do for the local community on the island.
The owners of the pub were blown away by the nomination and thanked their customers for the continued support.
They said: "We have heard today that “ WE ARE IN THE FINAL 4 “ for this award. We are totally gob smacked and thank you all for your support."
One person said: "Well deserved, great atmosphere, great staff, great service, not to be missed when visiting Millport, great meeting place for locals too."
And another added: "Amazing news, best pub on the island. Great grub, great atmosphere and great staff."
The family-friendly pub is renowned for its Wednesday night curry club and selection of live music that islanders enjoy.
The winner will be announced at an award ceremony staged by the Dram magazine in Glasgow on August 27.
