Largs magician David Ennis has praised the town for its spellbinding appeal, and has revealed that the town will be hosting another weekend devoted to allusion and entertainment in 2025.

David is one of the town's best loved and most well known entertainers having performed magic in the town for 40 years for generations of children.

He told the News he is delighted that the convention is making its return on the weekend of May 5-6 next year.

David says it will be boost for the hospitality economy with around 100 illusionists expected to visit and stay in the area from all over the UK and internationally for the  the Scottish Association of Magical Societies weekend.

He said: "It is wonderful that it is being repeated and it is a real highlight of the year for people with an interest in magic.

"Largs was so successful and everything went well and the audience was great for the Gala Night at Barrfields Theatre so it is good news indeed about its return.

"Largs has a long and proud history of supporting magic shows going right back to the era of Councillor Theodore Speaker who used to perform at Barrfields Theatre in the 50s and 60s right up the likes of Calum James nowadays who is very popular."

David has reflected on his life of magic, after joining the famous Magic Circle 35 years ago.

He said: "Every entertainer wants to see people enjoying themselves at a show and provide a sense of wonder.

"I have been very lucky over the years and through my involvement in the Magic Circle I have even met the late great Paul Daniels.

"He was a great professional and lovely to meet. Paul was very much an entertainer who used to get TV ratings of 20 million during his Saturday night show on BBC1 and he has also performed in Largs.

"It has been a lifelong passion for me but what is magic? It is trying to distort reality and there are three main aspects including patter and conversation with your audience, misdirection and the actual effect.

"The toughest crowd is actually doing a kids show - you have to be totally in control of it, and they are the most questioning.

"Magic thrived in the 60s and 70s in a lot of working mens' clubs which kept magicians in employment.
