THE organisers of the Largs Viking Festival have hit out after repeated incidents of vandalism at the event site.
The festival's Viking Village is currently being assembled by North Ayrshire Council's Streetscene team ahead of the hugely popular annual event, which starts at the end of August.
The main frame of the village set-up has been damaged, while there have also been other incidents across the site.
The festival's volunteer organisers say the site has been targeted every night since assembly work began.
In a social media post a spokesperson said: "Since the village started to go up last week, every night there has been vandalism and damage done.
"Fence posts pulled out, struts jumped on and broken, panels cut or burned and knocked down.
"It has been reported to the police and they will be patrolling the area more often.
"Please keep your eyes open and report any vandalism to the police."
Festival chairman Douglas Blair said: "It is hard to understand why anyone would do such a thing.
"There was sometimes the odd incident in the past but nothing like this.
"The more vandalism there is, and the more repairs we have to carry out, the less we have to spend on the Viking Festival for next year.
"The promenade has a lot of dog walkers at all times of the day and I would urge them to report anything they see to the police.
"We also hope to have a few Vikings in attendance to keep an eye on things from a security perspective."
This year's festival runs from August 31 until September 8.
