A long-running business in Largs has been named the top restaurant in Ayrshire at The Scottish Business Awards.

The Kohinoor Indian Restaurant in Main Street spiced things up in the regional category of the awards with a terrific win.

Owner Lucky Jeer told the 'News' that it was a great feeling when the Largs business was announced as top restaurant at the prestigious ceremony held at the Park Hotel in Kilmarnock at the weekend.

Lucky said: "We are absolutely thrilled. The secret to our success is a combination of working hard and delicious food. We aim to bring all of our customers the best value for money, services and food around.

"It was a mix of judging and the public voting so it was a great accolade as it means we got recognition from our customers too, who have been fantastically loyal."

The Kohinoor has been based in Largs since 1985 when they first moved to the seafront in Gallowgate Street, before moving to a new premises in Main Street.

Lucky has been involved in the running of the premises over recent years and first got involved in the Kohinoor 12 years ago when his father Paramjit was involved.

Lucky said: "We would like to thank all our customers for all their support over the years. Some of our big sellers include Chicken Tikka Chattinad, King Prawn Balti and Lamb Chasni.

"We are very particular about our service and quality to give our customers a better experience.

"We aim to bring all of our customers the best value for money, services and food around, plus we are constantly aiming to improve our service."

With a menu that boasts over 40 starter options, and a dizzying choice of 200 main  courses, Lucky said there was nothing more fulfilling than delighting the customers with high quality cuisine.

There are 44 seats within the restaurant, and they also do deliveries from West Kilbride to Wemyss Bay, and open Tuesdays to Sundays. They have a staff of nine personnel, with head chef Soma Benjer leading the food operation.

And Lucky and Soma now have their eyes set on doing the double with the Kohinoor up for another top gong, and will be travelling to the Doubletree Hilton in Glasgow on September 9 after reaching the finals of the Best South Asian Restaurant in the West.

Lucky added: "I would like to especially thank my dad who we bought the businesses from. He's started the ball rolling for us and has been a great influence to us in everything that we have done."
