A high quality fast food outlet in Fairlie is expanding just six months after opening in the village, with hundreds of burgers and pizzas flying out the door every week to hungry customers.

Grilled-88 have launched a planning application to North Ayrshire Council to expand into the neighbouring premises at No 86.

No 86 was formerly Narducci Antiques for many years and in more recent years has been a florists as well as a beauty studio.

Owner Daniel McKinnon is now looking to expand Grilled-88 since its successful opening in February of this year.

Speaking to the News, Daniel said: "We are proposing to extend the shop to give us more space, and the plan is to put my pizza oven in next door and make it into a pizzeria."

"Our burgers are the biggest seller, and we sell about 100 pizzas a week maybe more."

And asked about the secret to the takeaway's success, Daniel replied that high quality was always to the fore, and revealed that the Main Street outlet is about to launch a new signature burger with a secret recipe.

Daniel is also about to launch an upcoming upgraded menu, and said: "We have a lot of variation and it is basically to make sure there is something there for everyone including vegan, vegetarian, all allergens, and gluten free.

"All our chicken products are also Halal certified, so we have everything covered. All our burgers will have two patties in the newly upgraded menus.

"Everything is locally sourced. Whether it is likes of McCaskie's or John Scott Meat, it is all locally supplied or homemade and we also have ice cream from Geraldo's in Largs.

Daniel snapped up the opportunity to take over the former Shun Tin Chinese takeaway in the village last year after previous plans to open a pharmacy at the premises fell through. He also owns Grilled-88 in Wemyss Bay.

After a two-month renovation, including having to overcome a flooding problem in late December, Grilled-88 was able to open the doors on February 1.

This latest planning application is a 'change of use from beauty salon to an amalgamation of No 88 and No 86 to form hot food takeaway' and will include a new opening between the two premises as part of the takeover as part of the amalgamation.

Initially, Grilled-88 was open four evenings a week, but is intending to extend to seven when permission is received. It has also undergone a full re-branding, as it plans to continue to grow.
