Green fingered enthusiasts came together to celebrate growing some wonderful plants and produce at this year's Largs Flower Show.

It featured some tremendous entries from award winning plant displays to a giant cabbage!

After a difficult growing season thanks to the ever changeable Scottish climate, Largs and District Horticultural Society, who stage the show every year, were delighted to see that the quantity and quality of exhibits compared favourably with previous years.

A steady stream of visitors were treated to a colourful spectacle of flowers, pot plants and vegetables including the giant cabbage which was a big talking point.

The floral art exhibits reflected artistic talent and imagination.

Also on display were mouth-watering examples of home-baking, including a special decorated cake class sponsored by West Coast Cakes as well as displays of hobbies and crafts.

Budding talent was also in evidence in the variety of exhibits in the schools, nursery and junior sections.

The society were particularly pleased at the large number of first-time exhibitors and look forward to welcoming them back to future shows.

Drawing special praise were the amazing baskets of fruit and vegetables provided in the Allotment category - and that huge cabbage that had possibly been fed on steroids.

Many of the visitors also enjoyed the tearoom where a huge variety of delicious home baked goods were available.

The main prize winner was Saltcoats gardener, David King, who won the Royal Bank of Scotland Quaich for most points overall as well as three other trophies.

The judges had debated long and hard over what would be awarded best exhibit in show before finally deciding on three superb onions from David. He also received the National Vegetable Society Medal for six shallots.

As the show closed the array of very generous raffle prizes donated by local businesses and individuals were handed out to the lucky ticket holders. The giant cabbage was won by a delighted Kim Foster, and is being donated to the Largs Foodbank, with a delighted Wendy Low Thomson pictured below with winner Kim.
