Businesses in Largs have put on a united front for the Viking Festival with some impressive shop window displays as excitement builds towards the start this Saturday.
Independently-run shops around the town including Geraldo's, Ivory Macs, Eyeglass Opticians, Bluestone. Coppernut, Moorings Knitwear, and Inspired Vision have got involved while even larger chains such as Wilkies and charity shops such as The Salvation Army have all got involved in the fun.
From Viking helmets to dressware, and even fashionable footwear as worn by the trendy Vikings are on display at CY Neilly's, while a number of premises including Geraldo's, the Salvation Army, and Eyeglass Opticians have been setting sail by having Viking ships on the frontage displays.
And a Viking wooden artefact - which is a true survivor, having been on display since the first Viking festival in 1980 - was also in the window of Gavin's Ironmongers in Aitken Street.
Judging has now been completed and the winner of the £100 cash prize for the top Viking window display will be revealed at the opening ceremony on Largs seafront on Saturday afternoon from 1.30pm onwards.
Lisa Barr, who is a Viking ambassador, told the News that the standard of displays was very high and it was a very difficult decision for the judges given the amount of choice, effort, and originality that went into the designs.
She added: "It all helps in the build up and promotion of the Viking Festival, and it was great to see all the effort that has been put in by businesses around the town, with over 14 shops getting involved, and we hope that there will be even more next year."
