A breakdancing depute head teacher evoked the spirit of the Paris Olympics with a special routine to lift the spirit of pupils on their return to school.

Largs Academy posted the photos on their 'X' social media forum of depute head teacher Barry Wilson showcasing his energetic moves to the disbelief of pupils at an information session for first years.

The post reads: "What a great start for our new S1 cohort: First assembly with Mr Doherty and Mr Wilson showing off his 'break dancing' skills during the S1 elective information session."

Largs Academy head teacher John Doherty told the News it was a 'light-hearted' moment captured on camera to lift the spirits for the new arrivals in first year.

John added that the school is looking forward to the forthcoming prizegiving for S4-S6 pupils coming up in a fortnight's time, but it is unclear whether we will see more of Mr Wilson's stylish dancing techniques on the big day!

Mr Wilson was joined by Pupil Support teacher Sophie Charlwood-Green who is offering hip-hop and breakdancing opportunities to pupils in the school this year.

Breakdancing competitions at the 2024 Summer Olympics ran from August 9 to 10, marking the sport's official debut in the programme and the first dance sport discipline to appear in Summer Olympic history.

And it is arguably the first time too that a breakdancing teacher has welcomed pupils on the opening day of school at Largs Academy!
