It is congratulations to the Round Island Cafe which scooped a top prize at the Food Awards Scotland and helped put Millport firmly on the culinary map.

The popular Millport eatery came up trumps at a special ceremony at the swish DoubleTree Hilton in Glasgow as the Islands Food Business of the Year.

The seafront café provides high quality cuisine and offers views overlooking the bay, and proud owners Cindy Meikle Groves and partner Tom have expressed their delight and thanked customers for all their support.

The Food Awards Scotland takes place every year to acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments of restaurants, cafes, chefs, producers, and other culinary experts across Scotland.

These awards highlight outstanding contributions to the food industry and offer a stage to display the skills and influence of those who contribute to the country’s culinary landscape.

A delighted Cindy said: "We received an email out of the blue earlier in the summer telling us that we had been nominated and it all sounded very good.

"We were nominated against several other prestigious restaurants, one of which was a Michelin, so it was a real badge of honour to win this, and great recognition for Millport.

"We had to amass a number of public votes, and we also had to give a video presentation to judges, and we were absolutely thrilled when it was announced that we had won.

"The secret to our success is that we have worked really hard and put our heart and soul into this place since it opened nine years ago, and we also have some fantastic staff, and our customers have been very supportive.

"It was a public vote and then we had to give evidence on how we have evolved and Tom put a video together which was shown to the panel of judges."

Asked about what makes the cuisine so special on the island, Cindy said: "We serve fresh fish, none of it is frozen, and we also use local suppliers such as Cumbrae Butchers so we are really putting a strong focus on the island's food products, so this a total triumph for Millport.

"We would like to thank everyone for voting for us and for all the support. We have some very supportive customer who have been great too."
