The organisers of the Largs Viking Festival have issued an important announcement ahead of the Festival of Fire.

The final day of the festival, on Saturday, September 7, includes a re-enactment of the Battle of Largs in 1263, a torchlit parade and the burning of a replica Viking longboat, followed by a fantastic fireworks display.

The fireworks show has been an ever-present feature of the festival since it started in town 44 years ago, and is eagerly anticipated as one of the major highlights of the nine day extravaganza.

The Festival of Fire takes place at the Vikingar! putting green at 7.30pm on Saturday, with the gates opening at 7pm.

However, organisers are now urging people to collect their wristbands ahead of time to avoid queuing.

In a statement online they said: "Wristbands for the Festival of Fire can now be collected at the Village gate from 10am - 4.30pm. [It is a] later opening till 7.30pm on Wednesday, September 4.

"Best to get them early to avoid queuing on Saturday night.

"If you are a torch bearer, please ensure you are given a RED wristband and any family and friends that are with you a YELLOW wristband.

"The wristbands entitles you entry into Vikingar putting green from 7pm for the Battle reenactment at approx 7.30pm, participation in the torch lit procession and closer view of the burning of the longboat and fireworks.

"Torch bearers (RED wristbands) and their friends and family (YELLOW wristbands) will go directly behind the Vikings.

"Pink general wristband wearers behind the public torch bearers."

Visitors with tickets can get access to the battle re-enactment, torchlit procession, closer access to the burning of the Longboat, and fireworks display.

However, ticket or a wristband is not required to view the fireworks or to the burning of the longboat from the promenade. It is asked to keep the RNLI station and slipway clear in case of emergencies.

The resilience team and police will be in attendance to direct the procession and public to ensure safe passage.

The Scottish food and craft market will be also open until 10pm.

There are a limited number of tickets left, so people are urged to purchase either online and at the village gate.
