The full schedule for Millport’s iconic September Weekend celebrations has been revealed.

The popular weekend takes place from September 27 to 29, with the famous Cumbrae fireworks taking place on the Saturday evening.

The weekend kicks off with live music across the town on Friday, September 27, with The Newton Bar, The Pier Hotel, The Tavern and The Twa Dugs taking part.

There will also be a family ceilidh from 7pm-9pm, hosted by Isle of Cumbrae Tourist Association, will be held in the DA Hall on September 27.

Saturday kicks off with the annual sand sculpture competition at Newton Sands from 10am, before the children’s fancy dress competition and entertainment in the Garrison House Grounds from 2pm.

Throughout the day there will be various competitions from the “Best Shop Window” to the “Best Children’s Fancy Dress” for people to witness the talent of local businesses, street performers, and creative sand sculptors competing for top honors.

A new category for this year's event has been announced as "Best Decorated Motorhome".

Saturday evening kicks off with street entertainment from 7pm, before the annual fireworks at 8:15pm which are launched from Strathwerry Jetty opposite Premier Stores.

The ever popular mini Millport's Got Talent takes place on Sunday afternoon from 2pm at the DA Hall (registration is on Saturday from 2-4pm at the same venue).

On Sunday, a crabbing competition will take place from the old pier from midday to 2pm, with entry forms available from Crocodeli on Stuart Street.

An illumination competition will also be taking place throughout the weekend for the best dressed house, flat and window, best sculptures and best children’s display and story.

The grand prizegiving for these competitions will take place in the DA Hall at 4.30pm on Sunday, September 29.

For late night transport CalMac Ferries will operate additional sailings departing Cumbrae at 9pm, 9.30pm and 10pm.

Buses for the each ferry will leave from the pier - which is the only pick-up point-  20 minutes before each departure.

Anyone who wishes to travel on these additional late night sailings must be in possession of a boarding card and a valid Cumbrae - Largs ticket.

The boarding cards are only available for collection at CalMac Ferries Largs Office from Friday, September 27.

There will be limited spaces available for cars on each sailing , which can also only be booked at the Largs office.

Late night transport options to and from the island are yet to be announced.
