A TALENTED Largs ballerina is set to perform on the same stage that inspired her passion for the art.

Niamh Young was inspired to begin her journey to becoming a classical ballerina at aged eight after she went along to see a performance of Cinderella at Barrfields Theatre in her hometown in 2016.

After the show, the Largs Academy pupil knew she wanted to get involved and joined Greenock-based dance school Alba Ballet, who put on the production, two years later.

Since joining the company, the 16-year-old has performed in the Nutcracker in 2022 at the Beacon in Greenock and Queens Hall in Dunoon.

She will now return to her hometown for her first leading role in the upcoming Cinderella production and has shared her excitement ahead of the performances.

She said: "I was first introduced to Alba Ballet whilst watching their first performance of Cinderella back in 2016 at Barrfields Theatre.

"It was at this time that I was initially inspired to be involved in classical ballet productions.

"I am really looking forward to performing as one of the principal dancers in this year's production of Cinderella.

"I have also been lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with Bethany Kingsley-Garner, the patron of Alba Ballet, which has helped to enhance my performance and technique."

When the curtains go up at the beginning of November, Niamh will have spent over 200 hours in the studio working on the production.

Julie Kavanagh, principal of the dance school, said: "Niamh has worked so hard over the past few years and has developed a real stage presence, while perfecting her technique.

"We have a really strong cast for Cinderella. After looking at the cast we felt Niamh just fitted the role of Cinderella perfectly.

"We can't wait to see her perform along with the rest of the cast in November. I think it makes it even more special that we are returning to her home town for one our performances"

Mum Natalie said: "We are really proud of Niamh and are looking forward to watching the company's performance after two years of preparations.

"Niamh has been dancing since she was three, however she began her journey with Alba Ballet back in 2018 and has been involved in previous productions including Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker.

"She also attends Elite Academy of Dance where she works towards RAD Ballet examinations, pointe technique and jazz.

"We can't thank Julie and the team at Elite and Alba enough for the encouragement, support and dedication they provide and would thoroughly recommend both to any budding ballerinas."

Cinderella is coming to Barrfields on Saturday, November 9 and tickets are available to purchase at ticketsource.co.uk/barrfields.
