Barrfields Theatre is set for something creepy, kooky, and wonderfully spooky when it hosts the Addams Family as its next big stage show in October.

Largs Players will be bringing the musical to the town and director Maggie Cunningham says that locals are in for a real treat in the lead up to Hallowe'en, with the show taking place between October 9-12.

The ghoulish Addams family are visiting the graveyard for an annual gathering of all family members (living, dead, and undecided) to celebrate what it is to be an Addams.

Uncle Fester stops the Ancestors' return to their graves to enlist their help. He explains that Wednesday, under protest, has invited her new (normal) boyfriend, Lucas Beineke, and his parents, Mal and Alice, to dinner...

The original tv show was a great hit around the world in the 1960s, and then the movie spectacular came out in the 1990s spawning a number of sequels.

More recently the Netflix spin-off Wednesday, has also been a huge global success with the younger generation.

Show director for Largs Players, Maggie said:"The comedy is hugely funny, and I think that is why it has lasted so long and had so many different versions, the latest of which is this fabulous stage show.

"It is a great script and there are lots of very funny scenes while the musical score and lyrics themselves are very important to listen to as there is a lot of laughter to be had.

"We have local undertaker Andy Park as Gomez and it was as if this role was specifically made for him as he is terrific in the part.

"Andy is up for any challenge and brings such great energy and zest to the role and he was just made for this part in more ways than one.

"We have Fiona Rodden as his wife Morticia and she plays it very straight and is a wonderful foil."

She added: "We have a large cast of 36 and we have Stuart McArthur who teaches at Largs Academy as musical director, and Sarah Craigmile, who is a choreographer with Karen Aitchison School of Dance.

"It is very much a feel good show which can be enjoyed across the generations. There is a lot of dark humour as you would expect.

"It features all the original aspects and characters from the original show that you would come to expect including Uncle Fester and Lurch, and we have a dream cast, with Linda McMurray as the grandmother bringing all her comedic experience to the part and she is excellent

"Lauren Beckworth from Slimming World in Largs has been involved in a lot of singing and performing for charities and on cruise ships, and possesses an amazing voice, as we look to recreate the Addams Family vibe for the big show.

"We have also had to look out a whole host of unusual props you wouldn't normally get for other productions."

"It has been a really interesting and and engaging show to be involved with, and we hope that the Addams Family continues to provide plenty of thrills and spills,  after having delighted and entertained generations of fans over the years in all its different guises."
