An award-winning Ayr eatery is still eyeing an expansion into Largs - 18 months after first revealing the plan.

Narinder Sangha, who owns the popular Ayr India chain in South Ayrshire, managed his cousin’s restaurant in Gallowgate Street in the early 1990s.

The restaurateur, who runs the business with his family including son Gagandeep, has been serving up tasty dishes across three premises of his own for more than three decades.

The family revealed last year that they wanted to expand to Largs, and Gagandeep reveals the plans are still on the table.

He said: "We're still actively looking for a premises in Largs, but the right opportunity just hasn't come along yet.

"My dad managed his cousin’s restaurant in Gallowgate Street in the early 1990s, and he has always wanted to open up there himself.

"We are always on the lookout for a space so if anyone knows anything, email us at enquiries@ayrindia.com."

Ayr India Seafront was this week given the honour of Best Indian Restaurant in the West of Scotland at the prestigious Spice Awards 2024.

The family's food empire also includes their other Ayr India restaurant on Alloway Place and The Rupee Room.

Narinder opened the seafront restaurant in 1992, with the Alloway Place premises following in 2010. The family have also owned The Rupee Room for 25 years.
