Big Brother star Mikey Hughes was the headline act during a recent comedy stand-up night in Largs which went down a storm.

The blind comedian included plenty of Viking references in his routine which took place on the eve of the festival, and also dressed up as Barbie and sang his own unique version of 'Barbie Girl', while playing the ukulele.

If that all sounds completely mad and on the edge humour, then you would be right, and the local audience lapped it up with hoots of laughter.

Mikey, who hails from Kilwinning, did not face the public vote once throughout his entire stay in the Big Brother house.

He finished the series in second place with 48.7 per cent of the public vote, and left the house on Day 93, narrowly missing out on the top prize of £100,000  with just one per cent between the two contestants in what was the show's closest ever final.

And Mikey was thrilled with the reaction that he received from the Largs crowd, and has now lined up a number of other shows after such a good reception after relaunching his comedy career earlier this year.

Mikey told the News: "Largs was without a doubt my best gig of the year.  Thanks very much to everybody for popping along.

"Not everything quite went to plan on the evening as I got in a tangle with the Barbie wig, and the Liz Truss lettuce I brought along is still rolling around in Largs somewhere!"

A host of other top comedy acts took part in the laughterfest featuring an assortment of ten minute stints for Jack Carr, Ray Kohli, Adam Smith, Zef, Laura Pryde, and Karin Nixon.

And former Largs Academy pupil Kat Powell kicked off proceedings as the first act in the busy line-up of comedians and comediennes which also showcased local comedic talent.

The compere for the evening was former West Sound and Q96 presenter Steve Goldie who also provided some humorous headline references for the Largs and Millport Weekly News, and thanked everyone for coming to the show.

The event was free to attend, with donations taken after the show, and got an enthusiastic reception from the Largs crowd who filled out the top floor of The George.
