LARGS Academy's top achievers have been hailed at the school's S4-S6 prizegiving ceremony celebrating outstanding merit.

The event marked the achievements of the pupils and gave deserved recognition for all their application and effort throughout the year in excelling in their subjects.

The ceremony was presented by sixth year pupils Naideen Dailly and Noah Graham and was followed by a speech from head teacher John Doherty, who praised the strong achievements of his pupils after a fantastic year.

There was also an inspirational video from former pupil Lyall Craig.

Dylan Shearer performed “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen on the piano during proceedings.

Head teacher Mr Doherty said: "A total of 85 per cent of S4 pupils received five qualifications, with 52 per cent of S4 pupils achieving five or more National 5 passes A-C. Our S5s did not disappoint with 60 per cent of pupils achieving one Higher or more, with 27 per cent passing five or more Highers, which is a seven per cent increase on last year's figures.

"In S6, a total of 21 per cent of pupils gained an Advanced Higher which is a fantastic achievement."

It is congratulations to this year's dux winner, who is Emma Jayne Kennerley, with the award presented by head teacher Mr Doherty.
