LARGS and District Stamp Club members enjoyed an enlightening talk recently about stamps which have focused on biodiversity and extinct animals.

At their recent meeting, the philatelic enthusiasts were pleased to welcome Sandy Kerr, showcasing how stamps have illustrated the biodiversity of Scotland over the years.

In his first round he gave members an introduction to genetic make-up followed by habitats, mammals, extinctions, families and insects.

This was followed in the second round by marine mammals, birds, swans and ducks, cryptogams, Post and Go issues and fresh waters creatures, mainly fish. The vote of thanks for an excellent evening was given by treasurer Angus Dodds.

The next meeting on October 9 is an informal evening entitled "How to" when the group will explore the different ways of collecting.
