A BURN flowing through a children's swing park which is also popular with dog walkers has been discoloured over recent days sparking concerns from residents.
A slurry colour has appeared in the Kirktonhall Glen burn in West Kilbride with concerns raised with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, who in turn, say that Scottish Water are looking into the situation as the cause is a ruptured clean water pipe.
The situation was first reported to the environment agency on Monday and has been ongoing, with concern over a lack of feedback on the issue.
The burn was still heavily discoloured on Thursday afternoon when the News visited the area and filmed the below video showing the extent of the issue. Scottish Water have also visited to investigate the issue.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) said: “SEPA was contacted by several members of the public reporting discolouration in the Kilbride Burn in West Kilbride on Monday, September 30.
“Our officers have identified the source of the pollution which appears to be coming from a ruptured clean water pipe. We have contacted Scottish Water who will investigate and resolve the issue, and SEPA will monitor the progress.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the public who reported this to us and to encourage anyone who spots signs of a pollution incident to contact SEPA via the Pollution Hotline 0800 80 70 60 or online at www.sepa.org.uk/report.”
A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “Scottish Water have investigated, and a repair will be carried out on the burst water main.
"We will continue to liaise with SEPA “
