AN AYRSHIRE fund-raising legend has just launched his latest charity campaign.

This year, for the 14th time, Michael Kirkum will be leading a Christmas fund-raiser in aid of the Crosshouse Children's Fund.

The annual appeal sees the Kilwinning man reach out to the community in a bid to support those most in need over the festive period.

Via generous donations, Michael will be putting together 'pick and mixed' gift packages to be distributed by 'Santa' at the Kilmarnock hospital.

He said: "Each year the appeal sets out to help many local children who spend the festive period separated from their families while at Crosshouse children's ward.

"The gifts and sweets that everyone donates put a smile on their faces, keeping a touch of normality in their lives.

"The appeal also helps the local community groups who are affected by the price increases and cut back by helping them reach more children who may not otherwise receive a Christmas gift."

Michael, who also runs an Easter egg appeal over the spring period, says that across various projects items have now been provided to 33,940 children - with an estimated cash value of £205,140.

"This is something all supporters should be proud of," Michael added.

"I was lucky enough to be invited to the Royal Garden Party in Edinburgh this year - I should point out that I only ask for the donations.

"As a supporter, it is you that makes this possible. Without you, this would not be possible - please donate what you can."

Michael officially launched this year's appeal alongside his son, Michael Jnr, Santa Claus and some of his early supporters.

Energyze Gym in Kilwinning have been a massive supporter of Michael and his work and were happy to give a helping hand.

While a number of businesses and people have already offered their support, including: Natasha Duff; MJB Contracts; KK Contracts; Paul Stevenson Funeral Director; The Albion Bar; J and S Builders and Ian Allen.
