POLICE have reported a further jump in shoplifting incidents in Largs in recent weeks.
The figure has risen from 13 incidents to 16 in a month, Sergeant Donald Fisher told the latest meeting of Largs Community Council.
He said: "The shopliftings are definitely up and a lot of it is youth, some of it is adult, and some of it is people who are passing through who might be part of a larger organised crime gang that goes town to town.
"Not all of them have been detected as yet. That is very much ongoing work for us to get the CCTV and identify people and share that information around about."
There were detections in Home Hardware in Main Street on October 8, as well as at a local opticians on the same day.
However, the majority of the remaining incidents went undetected including seven in Morrison's Supermarket (between September 17 and October 13), five in the Co-op in Gallowgate Street (between September 24 and October 12) and one in Boots in Main Street (October 2).
Another incident in the Co-op on October 1 was detected by police.
