EXCITING plans for a new Thai restaurant for Largs have taken a step forward with a planning application submitted to North Ayrshire Council.

The Waterside Bar closed down back in April, marking the end of an era as a sale was in the process for a new Thai restaurant at the Bath Street premises.

The application is being made by Tha-Tien-Thai, who already own an award-winning oriental restaurant in Ayr.

The planning application includes opening times for the new restaurant at 14 Bath Street of 4pm to 9pm on Tuesdays, and midday to 10pm Wednesdays to Fridays.

Workmen have been going in and out of the premises on a regular basis, and the former Suez Canal Bar sign from over 60 years ago could be seen when the Waterside Bar sign was removed.

Speaking at the recent Largs Community Council meeting, Cllr Murdoch said: "The Waterside is going to be a Thai restaurant which is good news.

"We also know that there is going to be a restaurant at the former Helter Skelter,

"Riveria transformed the Bean and Leaf building, Allegria transformed the Morris's building, and the Brisbane House Hotel has invested fortunes and is a very successful wedding venue.

"The M&Co building is now occupied and should be opening around November 21 sub-divided into Bonmarche, Peacocks, Ponden Home Interiors and Edinburgh Woollen Mill.

"Also, work on the former Lounge building is well on its way and the owner of No.33, as it will be called, has spent a lot of money on the structure of the building which is great news.

"At the former Albert's Bar and Anayas,  the front elevation has been roughcast and it is looking great now and hopefully something positive will be happening there too.

"Any other town would be screaming out for that kind of investment. I don't like to hear people talking the town down, and if M&S get their act together with the Food Hall, then I think it is fair to say that we are doing better than most towns."

Conservative councillor Tom Marshall agreed and said: "Here, here!"

A six figure investment and renovation is being carried out on the much loved Lounge building in the heart of Largs town centre, with plans for a bar/restaurant development in stage one, and a boutique hotel in stage two.
