RESIDENTS of May Street and Anthony Road in Largs woke up to a shock after receiving fines for parking outside their homes.
Councillor Tom Marshall has taken up the cause after being contacted by affected residents, and has been in talks with North Ayrshire Roads Department on the issue.
The area was the local diversion route for the Amey roadworks taking place on the A78 in Irvine Road, but concerns have been relayed to North Ayrshire Council by Cllr Marshall that information regarding the parking restrictions placed on the route were not distributed to the residents affected prior to the works taking place.
The matter is now being investigated by North Ayrshire Council, who have suspended the penalty notices in the meantime.
Cllr Marshall said: "Last Saturday around 8.30am about 15 residents in May Street and Anthony Road were ticketed by the enforcement team for parking on these streets.
"Unfortunately none of the residents were pre-notified about the parking restrictions, and woke up on Saturday morning to discover cones and notices on lampposts and a ticket on their vehicle.
"I have spoken to the traffic enforcement team and they have suspended the penalty notices pending further investigation as I believe that they were issued in error."
A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “We cannot comment on individual instances of Penalty Charge Notices being issued however we can confirm we are currently looking into this matter.
“Anyone who believes that a Penalty Charge Notice has been issued in error can appeal through our website.”
