THE family of a man who was killed on a busy North Ayrshire road has launched a petition to increase safety measures.
Johnny Baxter was involved in a fatal accident on the A760 Kilbirnie to Largs Road on Tuesday, October 15.
His mother, Elizabeth Baxter, started the campaign with the aim of installing speed cameras on the A760 Kilbirnie to Largs road to prevent future incidents.
She said: “Our lives changed forever when we tragically lost our beautiful, kind, caring, and selfless 22-year-old son in an accident on the A760 Kilbirnie to Largs road.
“This touching incident is not singular, for this road is dreaded by many motorists and is infamous for its danger.
"It has been a hotspot for many devastating accidents over the years, causing too many fatalities and countless accidents resulting in severe injuries.
“Installing speed cameras would serve as a lifesaving measure, forcing drivers to reduce their speed, breaking the chain of accidents and fatalities that currently haunt this road.
"We urge the local governing authorities to recognize the gravity of the situation and take immediate action.
"Before another life is lost, before another family is shattered, let us work together to make this road safer.
"For our lost son who cannot petition today, and for everyone else who may face the reported dangers of A760, please sign this petition to ensure we install the necessary traffic calming measures on the A760 Kilbirnie to Largs road."
The crash involved a silver Honda Civic and a white Mercedes B class at around 5.10pm.
A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with the family after this tragic accident.
“Generally, physical speed reduction measures are not suitable for roads with a speed limit in excess of 30 mph, and the A760 between Kilbirnie and Largs has a 60mph speed limit.
“Safety cameras may be considered through the Police Scotland Safety Cameras Partnership which aims to reduce the number of people injured on roads through targeted camera enforcement and improving driver behaviour.
“Previous improvements to this route include the installation of cats eyes and replacement of anti-skid surfacing.
“A meeting is planned with Police Scotland to consider if further improvements may be helpful in reducing accidents on this route.”
