A POPULAR author with a passion for Millport is to be guest speaker for a forthcoming meeting of the Cumbrae Historical Society.
Maura McRobbie, who wrote Vikings and Skylarks on Cumbrae, will be speaking at 7pm at The Newton Bar on Monday, November 11.
She will be giving her own personal take on the Vikings, and her subject will be 'The real Viking legacy',
Maura released Vikings and Skylarks on Cumbrae in 2021 and was highly recommended by the Scottish Association of Writers.
Speaking in 2022 about her love for the island, Maura said: "As a former primary depute head, I spent every summer on the island and I was aware that there was a rich source of Viking/Celtic evidence to rival the island of Iona.
“As a child I used to lay flowers on Viking graves and spent my summers running wild and free over the hills, on foot or on horseback. For me there was no other feeling like it."
