A LARGS fish and chip shop is going for gold at a national awards ceremony after being named one of the top 20 chippies in the UK.
Out of more than 7,500 chip shops across the country, The Fish Works have made it into the prestigious shortlist for Takeaway of the Year, and now go forward to the next stage of the competition.
As part of the judging criteria for The National Fish and Chip Awards, business owners are said to have shown excellence in the areas of industry and product expertise, environmental and sustainable business methods, employer accountability, whilst providing the tastiest high-quality food.
Andrew Crook, president of the National Federation of Fish Friers, which organises
the awards, said: “The ultimate goal is to produce fish and chips that customers want to eat time and time again but doing so sustainably for the environment and business longevity.
"Our 20 shortlisted chippies are showing their mettle, and we hope they are feeling proud to have made it this far and we are thrilled to be part of their growth experience.’’
The National Fish and Chip Awards is on February 26 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, where the Takeaway of the Year winner will be revealed.
