THE next meeting of the North Ayrshire Family History Society will be on Tuesday, November 12 in Largs.
The lecture will be given by David Dewar who will be giving a talk on ‘The life and work of Henry Bell, Engineer’.
Bell, born in 1767, is a Scottish Engineer who helped to pioneer the development of the steamship, the most famous being the PS Comet.
The idea of propelling vessels by means of steam early took possession of his mind and helped to pioneer the development of the steamship, and introduced the first successful passenger steamboat service in Europe in 1812.
The meeting will be held in Largs Museum starting at 7.30pm, and all are welcome.
The North Ayrshire Family History Society was formed in 1988. Its aim is to promote the study of family history throughout the district.
