COUNCILLORS have expressed their hope that 'several issues' raised during recent roadworks in Largs have been 'ironed out' ahead of the next phase of the project beginning.
The resurfacing programme on Irvine Road had to be interrupted because of Storm Ashley with stage two delayed, and will now be taking place later this month.
Local elected members say they are hopeful that it will be a smoother transition after multiple concerns were brought up last time.
One problem which occurred previously was that residents of May Street and Anthony Road woke up to a shock after receiving fines for parking outside their homes.
The area was the local diversion route for the Amey roadworks taking place on the A78, but Conservative councillor Tom Marshall claimed information regarding the parking restrictions placed on the route was not distributed to the residents affected prior to the works taking place.
As we recently reported, the matter was being investigated by the council, with the penalty notices suspended.
Cllr Marshall told the News that the matter has now been resolved after appeals were upheld, and the remaining ‘live’ cases have been closed.
Amey have been requested to tighten their procedures for future traffic management and temporary traffic regulation orders where ‘waiting/loading’ restrictions are required for roadworks.
Cllr Marshall said: "I trust that any future temporary traffic regulation orders required for phase two of these resurfacing works will be notified to residents as soon as possible."
Independent councillor Ian Murdoch told the News that he is seeking a meeting with the roads authorities before the closure takes place.
He said: "I have asked for a meeting with Amey officials and North Ayrshire Council roads department to discuss the traffic management of the road closure. There were several issues before and during the last phase one closure and it would be good to iron these out before the phase two works begin.
"It is great that these roadworks are getting done and I am pleased that there is more information this time in relation to the streets that will be open for local access.
"That will be a big help and make things a lot easier and hopefully remove some of the difficulties that have gone before."
Amey will complete the second stage of the resurfacing programme between Monday, November 18 and Thursday, November 21. Full story here.
