THE festive season has officially arrived in Largs as the much anticipated new Christmas illuminations were switched on.

And it is apt that the funding originates from one of the town's most philanthropic figures over the years - the late Colin Weir.

As reported earlier this year, Largs Events had secured a £10,000 grant from the Colin Weir Charitable Foundation for the new festive illuminations.

A Largs Events spokesperson said: "Largs Events would like to thank the Colin Weir Charitable Foundation for the very generous donation that enabled us to buy new Christmas Illuminations for Largs.

"They look amazing."

The Colin Weir Charitable Foundation was founded to help community groups and encourage people to take part in sport and recreational activities.

Colin and his wife Christine won £161m on the EuroMillions in July 2011- the largest jackpot won in Europe.
