ISLANDERS are set to welcome a new permanent police officer on Cumbrae next month.
Cumbrae Community Council held their annual general meeting on Thursday, November 28 where Sergeant Donald Fisher provided a positive update.
Throughout the summer, the island has had different police secondments to support the sole constable based on Cumbrae.
Now, it has been revealed that a second permanent PC will be joining from the second week of December to help "bring stability back".
Sergeant Fisher told the meeting: "There is a new officer who will be starting second week of December. Dates are still to be defined, but he will be starting working alongside [the current officer] going forward.
"That will bring some stability back on the island which I am looking forward to going through to the next year.
"I would expect [the current PC] to give him a hand and introduce him as well, but what I have said to summer secondments has been to walk around and into the shops to say hello.
"That is something I think as a community officer is a core activity to do. I certainly expect the new chap to do that to integrate himself on the island."
