A MAJOR bar and restaurant renovation at the former Lounge premises in Largs is set to open before Christmas.

The much anticipated wait for the big re-opening of one of the town's most cherished historical buildings in the high street is nearly over.

Phase one of 'Thirty3' will see the bar, restaurant and nightclub renovated, with the premises set to open in under two weeks.

When complete, the new venue will comprise a restaurant, entertainment and events venue, and stage two will see the creation of a boutique hotel which is expected to follow next year.

A sneak preview of the new look events room, entrance area and sky dome has appeared on the restaurant's Instagram account.

Lead designer Michelle of Interiors Forty Five said: "We are making real progress because we are due to open in less than two weeks.

"At the top of the staircase, there is a big feature at the big dome and we have commissioned Megan Riley Artwork to do this and she has created a beautiful night sky with twinkly lights and stars which is lovely.

"We are creating a bit of a art deco vibe in Thirty3 and we have a beautiful wallpaper 'Dreamland'.

"In our events room, we have progressed further and we are getting ready for Christmas events and the decorations are now going up and it is fabulous to see it all coming together."

The couple behind the project are entrepreneurs Kevin and Janet Cumings, who have recently been living in Zambia.

They took over in October 2023, and a six figure sum has gone into the spectacular revamp.

The property was built in 1902 and was home for decades to the popular Mackay's tearoom, before the Happy Days fitness club and Carriages nightclub in the 1980s, and Lounge more recently, occupied the building.

Local tradesmen have been heavily involved in the work carried out so far.
