THE Met Office has issued a brand new weather warning for snow and ice across much of Scotland this week.

The yellow alert, which will be in place between 4pm on Monday, November 18 and 10am on Wednesday, November 20, will affect the Highlands, Grampian and the Northern Isles.

The Met Office has said there is a chance of "disruption and difficult travel conditions" over the course of this warning.

What to expect as the Met Office issues new snow and ice warning for Scotland this week

Here is what you can expect from the new Met Office weather warning for snow and ice across Scotland this week:

  • A chance that untreated pavements and cycle paths become impassable
  • There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected
  • There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off
  • A chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • There is a small chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel

What is a yellow weather warning?

Yellow weather warnings are issued for a range of weather situations that are likely to cause some low-level impact (such as travel disruption) to a limited area.

Such weather warnings mean most people can continue with their day as normal.

Other yellow warnings are issued when extreme weather is capable of causing an impact on most but where the certainty of this is much lower.
