Largs Thistle legend George Wall writes for the News about football matters local, national and international...

Largs really need to show consistency in the Premier League.

Thistle were well beaten against Beith but showed good resolve to get an important three points against Arthurlie where I am hearing the winning margin should have been more than two.

The effort is always there but more than effort is required in the top league. I really hope Darryl Duffy brings more than just his game to the team.

Darryl is well experienced and understands the game. Now that he is a signed player I would like to see him get a run in the team.

Next up in the league is Pollok and having watched both teams I see no reason why Largs cannot get a result.

On Wednesday I was in Piraeus near Athens at the same time as the UEFA Super Cup was being played between Man City and Seville.

A good atmosphere in the city with both sets of fans filling the bars and restaurants. Man City winning another trophy on penalties after a 1-1 draw. No extra time was played after the 90 minutes, straight to penalties, which was a surprise to me.

During the day the temperature reached 37 degrees with the temperature still in the 30s when the game kicked off at 10pm. A hard game for both teams, with Cole Palmer the 21 year Man City player being my man of the match. It looks like he is going to be a top player.

The Women’s World Cup won’t be coming home - well done Spain. I must admit I have enjoyed watching some of the games during the competition.

In the final I thought Spain were the better team. I was lucky enough to play in three cup finals as a player with Largs, winning two and getting beat in the other.

It is great when you win but what a downer when you lose. The loss was against Beith and they won it with a controversial goal. When I was part of the management team we made it to two finals, lost both and the feeling was just as bad.

I missed the Largs Thistle 35s (sponsored by Cullis Amusements) game on Friday against Northside. They seemed to do all right without me as they drew 1-1 after going down to nine men following a penalty given against them which goalkeeper John Cullis saved. This week it’s Ardeer at Inverclyde on Friday with a 7pm kick-off and I am back if selected.

Good to see that we are now a feeder club for Largs with the signing of Darryl Duffy, great news!
