LADIES from the Ayrshire-based West of Scotland Padel Club are going for Scottish Cup final glory this weekend - in the very first year of the tournament.
The team - featuring players from West Kilbride, Saltcoats and Ayr - will take on Edinburgh Sports Club in the final this Sunday, November 26, after defeating Thistle Padel in the last four.
Megan Montgomerie and Rachel Scallan from Saltcoats, West Kilbrides's Sonya Hughes and Charlotte Walker from Giffnock will be joined by Ayr's Angela McGlynn, who has recovered from injury to join the squad.
The racket sport is similar to tennis and uses shorter, stubbier racquets, with the ball staying in play longer due to toughened glass walls.
It utilises the same points-scoring system as tennis, and is underarm serve only. The club has members across Ayrshire, including players from Largs, Stewarton and Irvine.
The Ayrshire club, based at Stevenston Industrial Estate, was launched in 2017 by local business entrepreneur David McCulloch as the first of its kind in Scotland.
The club is also hosting a gents senior event this weekend, featuring over-40 and over-50 sections, with players set to travel from as far afield as Harrogate to take part.
