Largs Thistle legend George Wall writes for the News about football matters local, national and international...

A blow for Largs Thistle as they try to progress through the pyramid with Premiership clubs voting in favour of phasing out the use of artificial pitches in the top league.

You never know, we might see grass back at Barrfields in the future. You can’t beat a good grass park.

I can’t believe I am comparing the Scottish Cup final between Rangers and Celtic to the Champions League final which saw Real Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund on Saturday night.

The comparison is not in terms of the football played, but you just knew Real Madrid were going to score, similar to how a Celtic goal looked inevitable at Hampden.

Saturday night's final was a great game, though, with both teams going all out to win it. Borussia missing those chances in the first half was their undoing.

They must have been really disappointed after the game but you need to score when you are on top.

The atmosphere at the game seemed fantastic. Real Madrid are serial winners in the Champions League. They just know how to do it.

Another injury blow for Scotland with Lyndon Dykes being ruled out of the Euros due to an ankle injury.

He has scored a total of nine goals in 36 international games for Scotland, works hard and will be missed. Dykes himself must be devastated missing out on the tournament.

I would think the pressure is all now on Lawrence Shankland to deliver. Will Steve Clarke call up a replacement for Dykes? One player who might be worth a shout is Ayrshire man Ross Stewart. From Ardeer Thistle to the Euros in 10 years; what a story that would be.

Hopefully Ben Doak also gets a chance to show what he can do in the friendlies this week.

Finally, congratulations to Darvel on winning the Scottish Junior Cup on Sunday with a hard fought 2-1 win over Arthurlie.
