A FORMER Largs Thistle striker who spent almost eight years at Barrfields has returned to the club - this time in a coaching role.

Thistle have announced that Kevin Struthers will be joining the backroom team alongside manager Stuart Davidson and existing coaches Andy Scott and Allan Hamilton.

Struthers arrived at Barrfields in 2011 and was part of the squad who reached the Scottish Junior Cup final in 2019.

After hanging up his boots, Struthers was involved behind the scenes in the coaching scene during the following season, and now returns to the Barrfields spotlight.

He was also part of the squad that won the Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup in 2013 and, in the same season, toppled Ashfield in the promotion play-offs after being 3-0 down.

The following year he scored the winning goal in Thistle's first-ever away win over Arthurlie, under then-manager Sandy MacLean.

His playing career also included a brief spell at Ardrossan Winton Rovers in between his stints with Largs, and periods playing with Kilbirnie Ladeside, East Stirlingshire and Port Glasgow.

In a past interview with the News, manager Davidson described Struthers as "a big presence in the dressing room".
